Genesee Early College (GEC) students are required to take several assessments. These assessments vary by grade and are used to assess current skill level and academic progress. Assessments administered at Genesee Early College are: ACT EXPLORE - This assessment is administered in the fall to all grade 9 students. To learn more about ACT EXPLORE click here. Costs are covered by GEC ACT PLAN - This assessment is administered in the fall (in 2008 and 2009) to all grade 10 students. During the 2010 school year, the ACT PLAN will be administered during the spring semester. To learn more about ACT PLAN click here. Costs are covered by GEC. PSAT - This optional assessment is administered in the fall to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship competition. It is also known as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT). To qualify for the National Merit Scholarship competition, the student must take the test (for the first time) in their grade 11 year. Grade 10 students are encouraged to apply. Click here to learn more about the PSAT/NMSQT. A fee of $13 is required for testing. MME - The Michigan Merit Exam is administered to all grade 11 students in the spring (March). The MME consists of the ACT, WorkKeys®, and Michigan Content Expectations (content expectations are listed below). Click on each assessment to learn more. Costs are covered by GEC.
The ACT and/or SAT is used by many colleges/universities as one of the admissions criteria. Admissable ACT/SAT scores vary by post-secondary institutions. If a students does not earn an admissable ACT/SAT score, he/she should retake the assessment after focusing on ACT/SAT score improvement strategies.
